He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Lou; sons, Thomas and Christopher; granddaughter, Brenley Elizabeth Edwards; sisters: Carol Ann Edwards of Memphis and Barbara Cox (David) of Atoka; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; great-nephews; dogs, Tipton and Zoey; and numerous cats. Mr. Edwards retired in 2012 from the Memphis Fire Department. He was a paramedic fire fighter and was promoted to Lieutenant on March 18, 2003. He was a member of Bartlett Hills Baptist Church. He rode horses for many years with Frayser Ranch, Woodstock Cuba Saddle Club, and SASCA. He enjoyed being “Santa Claus” at the Oak Court Mall for a few years as well. George was very involved in his High School Athletic Programs and remained in Athletics throughout his life. He coached men’s softball for several years. George became heavily involved in the Shelby Forest League offering an opportunity for the youth of that area to participate in sporting events. Shelby County made the decision to close down Bolton Park, but the need to keep the Park open, for both the youth and senior citizens of that area became apparent thus meetings with the County were arranged and agreements reached to keep the Park open. George was one of the Founding Fathers of Bolton Youth Athletic Association. He worked tirelessly on the development of the BYAA at Bolton Park severing as Executive Board Member. His love for development of kids drove him to be a Coach, General Manager of Baseball Operations, and Life Time Member of BYAA. He enjoyed seeing the Children and Adults enjoying the Park which was his only reward for the countless number of volunteered hours he spent working for the Parks success. A visitation will be held Sunday, November 19, 2017 from 3-5 pm. His funeral service will be Monday, November 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm.
